Research Engineer, Data Platform
Build the data platform every model in the firm depends on, and keep it honest.
01 — The role
What the job is.
Point-in-time correctness is not a feature here, it is the product. You will own pipelines that turn messy vendor feeds into datasets a researcher can trust without checking.
02 — Responsibilities
What you would own.
- Design and operate ingestion for market, reference and alternative data.
- Enforce point-in-time semantics: no revisions, no look-ahead, no silent gaps.
- Build tooling that makes data quality visible before it reaches a backtest.
- Partner with researchers on dataset design and access patterns.
- Own the cost and latency profile of the platform.
03 — Requirements
Skills, qualifications
and experience.
Skills
- Python and SQL, with strong data-modelling instincts
- Columnar storage and query engines (Parquet, Arrow, DuckDB, ClickHouse)
- Workflow orchestration and idempotent pipeline design
- Testing for data: contracts, fixtures, reconciliation
Qualifications
- Four or more years building data infrastructure at scale
- Comfort operating what you build
Experience
- Financial data experience is welcome but not required
- Having debugged a silent data corruption at two in the morning
04 — Compensation
What we pay.
Base salary
$180,000 – $260,000
USD per year, plus annual bonus and equity. The range reflects the
level we are hiring at; the offer depends on experience.
